What is a college transcript?
A college transcript is a student’s permanent academic record. It contains confidential information and cannot be released by the College to anyone other than the student without the student’s authorization. BRCC Official and Unofficial transcripts contain student’s name, address, birthdate, all courses completed at the college, credits, grades, GPA, Honors, transfer credit, plan of study, as well as any certificates or degrees completed at the college.
What is the difference between an official and an unofficial transcript?
- An OFFICIAL paper transcript is printed on special, watermarked paper and signed by the Registrar. Official paper transcripts are mailed directly to the designated recipient in a sealed envelope. Once the envelope has been opened, the transcript is no longer OFFICIAL.
- An electronic transcript is considered OFFICIAL if the intended party is the direct email recipient. If emailed to the requestor, then forwarded, it is then considered UNOFFICIAL
- An electronic transcript which is printed then re-scanned in an email is considered UNOFFICAL
Official Transcripts
Official transcripts are required for students interested in transferring from BRCC to another college or university. Employers may also require official transcripts. Students can request BRCC official transcripts through Parchment.com. See instructions below on how to request an official transcript through Parchment.
Parchment Transcript Service
Parchment allows for immediate paper and/or electronic processing for a fee that starts at only $3.35. Processing is typically automatic and transcripts are sent the same day they are requested. However, it can take longer if manual intervention is required or there is a hold on the student account. To complete a Parchment transcript request, please follow the process below.

Record Disposal
Official student academic records, financial aid data, application materials and documents are maintained by the College during a student’s enrollment and for a specified period after enrollment in accordance with state regulations issued by the Library of Virginia. Some records, such as courses attempted, grades, etc., are maintained permanently in the Student Information System (SIS).
The disposal of student records follows guidelines set forth by the Records Management section of the Library of Virginia.
