Graduation

Completing an associate’s degree, certificate, or career studies certificate is an exciting milestone in your educational career. Follow the steps below to ensure you have all the information you need.

Apply for Graduation

1. Run your degree progress report in SIS to make sure you have satisfied all requirements for your program of study. Please contact an Academic Advisor with any questions.

2. Transfer credits from other schools attended (if applicable)

3. Apply for Graduation.

Please access the Graduation Application from SIS through the “Academic Records and Progress” tile located on your SIS homepage.  Select Apply for Graduation.  You must apply for graduation before the published deadlines. If you missed your deadline, please contact graduation@brcc.edu for assistance.

Applications will be available in SIS the following dates.

  • Spring Graduation: February 10 – April 18
  • Summer Graduation: June 10 – July 25
  • Fall Graduation: October 15 – December 6

4. Fulfill all obligations to BRCC. Outstanding bills, library books and supplies may cause a hold to be placed on your account. Contact BRCC Financials at brccfinancials@brcc.edu for help.

5. Complete the Graduation Assessment. If you’ve applied for graduation with an associate’s degree, you’ll need to take a general education assessment during your last semester. You will receive the assessment link in your VCCS email.

Watch for an Email with further instructions on how to access and complete the graduation
assessment. Failure to complete this requirement could incur an Account Hold which will prevent official transcripts being sent.  Contact graduation@brcc.edu with any questions.

Final Transcripts

Your degree, including major and any specialization, will be added to your permanent record and will appear on your transcript after final grades have posted at the end of the semester and after degrees have been conferred. Records will be updated as soon as possible and could take up to four weeks. Students who applied for graduation will be contacted via their college email after all records have been updated. Please request your official transcript after the email notification of your degree conferral and the transcript will include the name of your completed program. Students who have not fulfilled their obligations to BRCC mentioned above or taken the general assessment, will have a hold placed on their record preventing transcripts being sent.

Diplomas

Diplomas are not given to students at the Commencement Ceremony.  Diplomas and certificates will be mailed to the address shown in SIS and on your graduation application.  Diplomas and certificates are only ordered for students who submit a graduation application for the term in which they completed their degree or certificate requirements. Address and name changes should be made in SIS before the conclusion of the semester you will complete your degree.  Diploma and certificate orders are sent to Parchment for processing approximately six weeks after your final semester has ended.  Parchment will send diplomas and certificates via USPS.  Please allow 4-6 weeks for your shipment to be processed after orders are sent to Parchment.  Students earning multiple awards can expect to receive multiple packages.  If you do not receive your diploma or certificate in the mail, please contact graduation@brcc.edu so a reorder can be requested.

Commencement

Graduation Ceremonies (Commencement) are held once a year in May to honor graduates who have completed a degree, certificate, or career studies certificate within the academic year.  The academic year includes previous summer, previous fall, and spring. Students who have fewer than six (6) credit hours remaining in their program and anticipate completing those requirements in the following summer semester are eligible to participate in the ceremony. Contact graduation@brcc.edu before the April 15 deadline to be considered.
