Credit for Prior Learning presents a student with academic credit for knowledge and proficiency within specific fields achieved through prior academic studies or professional experience. This may include, but is not limited to, the options that are listed below. Please click each link for more information as well as instructions on how to request an evaluation of credit. For credit for prior learning opportunities not seen below, please contact registrar@brcc.edu.
Credit for Prior Learning policies at Blue Ridge Community College are consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) principles and with Virginia Community College System (VCCS) policy. Students must complete at least 25% of their degree requirements at BRCC (up to 75% of graduation requirements can be awarded through credit for prior learning). Credits awarded by BRCC for prior learning may not transfer to other institutions. Students who intend to transfer should check with their transfer institution to determine what prior learning may transfer.
Blue Ridge Community College may award credit for the following competencies:

- Cambridge (Advanced Level Exams)
- CLEP (College Level Examination Program)
- Credit-by-Examination
- Credit-by-Portfolio (Experiential Learning/Work Experience)
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Military Credit
- Transfer Credit from Another College/University
- Other Credit by Major Cluster
