Grants are need based and do not require repayment. The only application required for most grants at BRCC is the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Type of Grant | Eligibility Information |
Federal Pell Grant | Entitlement program (all eligible students are funded). Pell is awarded using a federal formula based on the income information provided on the FAFSA. This award is based on full-time enrollment and prorated for part-time students. |
Federal SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity) Grant | Limited funding (eligible students are awarded until funding is exhausted). SEOG is awarded to the highest need Pell-eligible students based on FAFSA information. Priority is given to students meeting the priority filing deadline. |
Commonwealth Award (COMA) Grant | Limited funding (eligible students are awarded until funding is exhausted). COMA is awarded to students who are Virginia residents attending at least 6 credits per semester. Students are awarded based on financial need using FAFSA information. |
Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program (VGAP) Grant | Limited funding (eligible students are awarded until funding is exhausted). VGAP is awarded to recent graduates of Virginia high schools with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and financial need based on FAFSA information. Students must enroll in at least 12 credits per semester to receive VGAP and earn at least 30 credits per year to continue receiving. |
G3 (Get Skilled, Get a Job, Get Ahead) Grant | Limited funding (eligible students are awarded until funding is exhausted). G3 program funds make up the difference between what federal or state financial aid pays for and the cost of tuition, fees, and books for the program for students in certain career and technical programs. |
Part-time Tuition Assistance Program (PTAP) Grant | Extremely limited funding (eligible students are awarded until funding is exhausted). PTAP is available to Virginia residents with financial need who are taking fewer than 9 credits per semester. |
Virginia Community College System (VCCS Grant) | Extremely limited funding (eligible students are awarded until funding is exhausted). VCCS is available to Virginia residents with financial need. |
