Terms and Conditions of Financial Aid Awards

  1. Blue Ridge Community College awards financial aid to recipients on a non-discriminatory, equal opportunity basis.
  2. Financial aid recipients must enrolled in and pursuing courses in an eligible degree or certificate program.
  3. Financial aid recipients must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards. Please review the College’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.
  4. We package financial aid by default at full-time status (12 or more credits per semester). We recalculate aid packages each term, after the College’s add/drop period to reflect each student’s actual enrollment status.
  5. If you officially or unofficially withdraw (e.g. stop attending) from all courses in a semester prior to completing 60% of a term for which payment is received, the amount of financial aid that you have earned up to that point is recalculated using a formula known as Return of Title IV Aid. Federal regulations require Blue Ridge Community College to have a written policy for the refund and repayment of federal aid received by students who fully withdraw. If you receive more assistance than you earned, the excess funds must be returned.
  6. The U.S. Department of Education selects one third of all aid applicants for a process called verification, which we must complete before we are able to disburse financial aid to a selected student. We will contact you if items are required. Failure to submit requested documents in a timely manner will delay the processing of your application.
  7. The Office of Financial Aid reserves the right to request verification of any data submitted by parents or the student. If the data is found to be incorrect, the data may be corrected and the award revised. If the applicant is determined ineligible for financial aid, the applicant’s award may be withdrawn. The applicant will then be responsible for payment of all expenses incurred at BRCC.
  8. Awards are based on information provided by the applicant on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and/or scholarship or loan applications and are subject to revisions and/or cancellation at any time if:
  9. Financial aid awards will be transmitted to the Student Financial Services Office and posted to your student account. After the aid is disbursed, and the student account is paid in full, you will refunded any remaining balance of financial aid funds. You may choose the method in which you are refunded.
  10. First-time Federal Student Loan Borrowers at BRCC MUST complete Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note.
  11. Students may apply for Federal Work-Study (FWS) as part of their financial aid package. Students who are approved to be packaged FWS have the opportunity to work on campus in a variety of jobs, or off campus in nonprofit agencies.
  12. If you receive an outside scholarship, your awards may be adjusted. It is your responsibility to provide scholarship information to the Financial Aid Office.
  13. It is your responsibility to file a FAFSA each academic year. Our recommended filing date is March 15th each year.
  14. The institution, state, and federal government are absolved of any and all responsibility for funding in the event that a grant and/or a loan or any other financial assistance is based upon fraudulent, inaccurate or misleading information.
