Loans for Students and Parents
Blue Ridge Community College offers a variety of borrowing options for students and families. You must first complete the FAFSA before requesting Federal Direct Student or Parent loans. You are also encouraged to complete the Scholarship Application. When college costs are not met with other types of aid and the student is unable to pay their education costs out-of-pocket, student and/or parent loans can be a helpful resource in financing educational expenses.
Students MUST be enrolled at least half-time (6 or more credit hours) to be eligible for Federal Loans.
Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans for Students
Federal loans that are deferred while students are enrolled at least half-time.
Federal Direct PLUS Loans for Parents
Federal loan program for parents of dependent students.
Alternative Loans
The Financial Aid Office strongly recommends that students exhaust all federal aid options before applying for loans through outside lenders. We also caution students to be aware that alternative loans are credit-based, often carry variable interest rates, and cannot be consolidated with federal loans.
