Graduates are eligible to take all eight ASE master certification exams. Over 80% of the program’s graduates pass the ASE tests.
Program Overview
Students perform testing and repair work on late model vehicles using state-of-art equipment in BRCC’s automotive lab. The program has a strong emphasis in electronics and computerized engine control systems.
Program Requirements
- Any student admitted to BRCC may enroll in the program.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Students must pass each AUT-prefix course to continue in the program; minimum GPA of 2.0 required for graduation.
Program Options
The A.A.S. degree is two-year program begins each August; full-time enrollment encouraged.

- Automotive Mechanical Systems Career Studies Certificate
- Automotive Undercar and HVAC Systems Career Studies Certificate
- Automotive Fuel and Electrical Systems Career Studies Certificate
Cooperative Education Option
Students may enroll in a cooperative education program, work a minimum of 10/week at a local service facility and receive college credit.
Program Master Certified
The Automotive Analysis and Repair program is Master Certified in all eight Automotive areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence and has received the Award for Excellence in Post-Secondary Vocational Education from the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers of the U.S. and the American Vocational Association.
Program Instructors
Jeff Wiseman
Jeff studied automotive technology in high school by attending Valley Career and Technical Center. He then continued his education at Blue Ridge Community College, receiving his diploma in Automotive Analysis and Repair. After graduation, Jeff began working at Ford Motor Company, until continuing his career by working for Augusta County Transportation while also teaching adults at Valley Career and Technical Center. Jeff’s teaching experience expanded when he moved into teaching automotive technology full-time at Rockbridge County High School from 2018-2022. Jeff started teaching at BRCC in August 2022. He is ASE Master Certified, L1 and G1 certified, and has his journey worker certification in mechanics. He continues to train with Ford, Toyota and Standard Motor Products, and possesses extensive experience with Toyota and Hyundai.
